Between Ambalangoda and Induruwa the Madu Ganga snakes inland, connecting a complex network of lagoons and mangrove waterways. This habitat makes a fascinating birding experience, and as a result of the biodiversity that is dependent on its ecology, it has been declared a ‘Ramsar’ site. The boat tour by Maduwa River Boats from Balapitiya, a few kilometers north of Ambalangoda would be a different and immersive way to appreciate the flora and fauna of the charm of the Madu Ganga. And yes, there ARE crocodiles – you might be lucky enough to hold a captive, baby crocodile (although we caution our guests against the commercial exploitation of wild animals).
Did you know? Seacology is helping Sri Lanka become the first nation in the world to comprehensively protect ALL of its mangrove habitats.
