Yala is the darling of the tourist industry’s wildlife portfolio, mainly due to its abundance of leopards. And it’s not just the apex predator that commands a crowd – visitors have a good chance to see bear, elephant, wild buffalo, deer and elk, raptors, migrant birds, reptiles and other fascinating species that make up Yala’s amazing biodiversity.
However, the quality of your experience is determined by ‘how’ you go about your safari. We advise you to use one of the higher-end tented-camping operators who have their own trained guides and run their own vehicles, and are conscious of ethical practice in viewing wildlife. Overcrowding is a consistent problem in the park, so it’s best to go on safari with people who do it right.
