The Galle Fort is a living and eternally evolving piece of antiquity that is over 400 years old and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Today, the Fort is a vibrant tapestry of its former inhabitants boasting an impressive history, beautiful architecture, quaint cafes and boutiques, which contribute to some of the patronized attractions in Galle. It is one of the most prominent attractions in Southern Sri Lanka.
The fort is best discovered on foot, ideally by means of a guided tour. This tour is unique because you have the opportunity to interact with actual inhabitants and colonial descendants of the city, and become privy to their stories and how history has shaped them. “Around the fort in 80 lives” – A must buy book before you explore the inside of the fort.
